ICAO Secretary General encourages Hong Kong’s leadership to explore sustainable development opportunities

​​The Secretary General of ICAO, Dr. Fang Liu (left), has undertaken a bilateral meeting with the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, China, Mrs. Carrie Lam (right), during her mission to this Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China. Their discussions focused on aviation’s unique and pivotal role as a catalyst of sustainable development and Hong Kong’s particularly strategic opportunities to make major contributions to the regional and global momentum in this regard, given its status as a global hub for air transport.

The meeting was part of an extensive series of activities with the leadership of Hong Kong’s air transport and logistics sectors, accompanied by visits to the infrastructure and educational facilities that support the region’s connectivity and growth. This included meetings, among others, with Mr. Frank Chan, Secretary for Transport and Housing; Ms. Teresa Cheng, SC, Secretary for Justice; and Mr. Simon Li, Director-General of Civil Aviation. Following tours of their facilities, Dr Liu also met with the CEOs of the Airport Authority Hong Kong, Hong Kong Airlines, the Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal and Cathay Pacific Dragon Airways.
