The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) announced the launch today of its recruitment campaign for the 2018 Young Aviation Professionals Programme (YAPP). Talented next generation aviation professionals from around the world are invited to apply.

The unique Programme, managed under ICAO’s leadership, is a joint initiative with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Airports Council International (ACI). It provides an invaluable professional development opportunity, with selected candidates contributing to one or more of ICAO’s Strategic Objectives under the mentorship of a subject-matter expert.

Exploring the important inter-relationships between ICAO and the airline and airport industries, the selected young professionals also work in close collaboration with IATA and ACI experts.

The 2016 Young Aviation Professionals Programme (YAPP) participants were welcomed to Montréal by ICAO, Airports Council International and IATA on 22 February 2016. From left to right, Mr. Vincent Smith, Director of ICAO’s Bureau of Administration and Services; YAPP participant Mr. Abul Kekilbayev from Kazakhstan; Ms. Angela Gittens, Director General of Airports Council International; YAPP participant Mr. Pierre-Ludovic Guymar from France; Mr. Mike Comber, IATA’s Representative to ICAO; and YAPP participant Ms. Haiqing Wan of China.

“It is crucial that we act today to engage and encourage the best and brightest of the world’s up and coming generations,” stressed ICAO’s Secretary General, Dr. Fang Liu. “The air transport sector will grow dramatically in the coming decades, and ensuring the skilled human resources necessary to keep our network running is a critical priority. Along with the ICAO Next Generation of Aviation Professionals programme, and our Global Aviation Training efforts, the YAPP initiative helps to support career development and to provide very hands-on benefits to these dedicated young participants.”

To be eligible for the YAPP, applicants must be under 32 years of age, possess advanced university qualifications and have at least two years of employment experience in aviation in an area of operational or regulatory responsibility. Due consideration is given to gender equality and geographic diversity priorities during the selection process.

Interested candidates who meet these criteria must submit their applications through ICAO’s employment site by 13 October 2017. The target date for candidates to report for service to ICAO Headquarters in Montréal will be towards the middle of February 2018.
